1st Carnforth Scout Group

Everything you need to know about Carnforth Scouting and our amazing Base Camp

WHAT IS SCOUTS ?

Every week (during Term time), our Scout Troop will gather to conquer the small task of changing the world. They are organised into smaller groups, called Patrols, where they learn about working together in teams.

Scouts will:

  • Master new skills and try new things.
  • Make new friends.
  • Have fun and go on adventures, at home and abroad.
  • Explore the world around them.
  • Help others and make a difference, in their own communities and beyond.

Scouts is run by trained adults, supported by Young Leaders (14 to 18 year old Explorer Scouts).

Around the age of 14 Scouts are able to move up into Explorer Scouts. (Explorer Units are run by Lonsdale District and, currently, the closest Explorer Unit to Carnforth is at the SilverHelme Activity Centre.)

MEET THE TEAM

The Lead Scout Volunteer leader is traditionally nicknamed Skip – an abbreviation of ‘Skipper’, which is a name given to a ship’s captain. Other volunteers normally just use their real names.

Becky is our Scouts Team Lead volunteer. Becky says “I was a Guide and then supported scouts when my children started Beavers. So I have been involved with scouting for a while! I love all the amazing people I meet and the wonderful adventures and opportunities I have had within the group. I have undertaken so many amazing things that I would never of had the courage to do without my scouting family. One of my highlights is the international camps to Kandersteg in Switzerland. In my spare time I am trying to walk all the Wainwrights.

Tom is another of our Scouts Team Leads. Tom says “I’m a trail runner, mountains lover and Scout Leader. I became a Scout Leader in 2023 to share my appetite for adventure. I found Cubs, Scouts and Ventures hugely inspiring and informative when growing up. They gave me an independence that became a foundation for my future. Best of all I got to take part in a range of fun activities and made great friends. I look forward helping today’s Scouts have the same awesome experience that I had.

If you are interest in Volunteering then please speak to Becky or Tom. You can also contact Becky on 07894 702 634 or email her at rebecca.parker@lonsdalescouts.org.uk
